Philip Jostrom

“What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.”
Ralph Waldo Emerson
When I get so hurried with life and the emergencies of the day, I forget what really matters!
I am one of those people who need that quiet time each day to refresh my soul.
Emerson’s quote is just the perfect reminder for me today!

“Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you have imagined.”
Ralph Waldo Emerson

Again today I am posting the same post as I did here:

Newly dedicated to my artists(my inspiration) and words of inspiration!
I pray you enjoy this new blog!

Daily Inspiration at http://philiphonegallery.blogspot.com/

Artist: Laura Sullivan

Again today I am posting the same post as I did here:
http://philiphonegallery.blogspot.com/
Newly dedicated to my artists(my inspiration) and words of inspiration!
I pray you enjoy the blog!

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God.
Your playing small does not serve the world.
There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you.
We are all meant to shine, as children do.
We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us.
It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone.
And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

Wishing you all the Best this Holiday Season!

As my dear friend Pat warned me; “there is a season for everything” here in the Artist community! Obviously I am going through the busy, busy Holiday Crunch Time! We’ve had event after event and the gallery is glowing in the Christmas Spirit!
Dressed in her finest trimmings…
Ready for the merry shoppers!
A big thank you goes out to Ms. Olivia Tolson who’s beautiful “Hand-carved and Hand painted” Statues & Ornaments decorate our gallery.
Photos are of her Santas! (((Love)))
I hope she recuperates from the “winter flu bug” and is back to her cheerful self in no time!
I am so blessed to have greatest people working in this field.
Another great big “Thank you!” goes out to all my friends and clients who continue to make The Philip Hone Gallery a success!
I wish you a Merry Christmas!

The Season...

This Painting is a very special piece from Gloria Forelli. This won the Knickerbocker Award!!! I am officially honored to have her with us! I am sure you would agree, this is one heck of a painting! Check out the detail! An amazing painting by a truly amazing woman!” I am not sure if she will get angry with me for posting it? Her spirit is strong, kind and obviously talented beyond compare. Anyone interested in a GiecleĆ© contact the Philip Hone Gallery.
You all know it’s the Season! How I love it!! However, I have been so busy, busy, busy!
I miss talking with you all more than you can imagine! The artist community is growing with leaps and bounds. I am challenged to figure out how to do this all!
I recently posted an add on craigs list for a partner!!!
Sad but true, ok don’t laugh!
Anyway…
More than anything I wanted to just “Thank You” all for your continued support, hardwork, and know that I am truly grateful for this wonderful opportunity!
The warm wishes & prayers are a blessing I will never forget!
May you all survive and thrive in this wonderful season!

Olivia Tolson comes to Philip Hone Gallery

Thousands of candles can be lighted from a single candle, and the life of the candle will not be shortened. Happiness never decreases by being shared. ~Buddha

The pictures are of the wood carvings by Olivia Tolson as I was unpacking, hope you enjoy!!!

Sorry, I haven’t been posting regularly….
I have a show Dec. 17th Thursday 5-7pm. Hope I can get some new work done!
I will try to post my work for you to see. Until then here is a little tidbit for the gallery’s website something I am truly excited about….the work of Olivia Tolson, so I have written this introduction and have decided to post it here too. Ideas and Opinions always wanted!!

The Philip Hone Gallery proudly announces the arrival of: The Olivia Tolson’s Collection. We now have the long awaited, highly desirable, hand carved ornaments from Olivia. A local favorite during Christmas time, all her work is meticulously hand carved and hand painted. See Photos…
On a more personal note about Olivia Tolson; I was struck by this talented woman from the first moment I met her and her family. A strong Pennsylvanian whose intelligence and talent combined with down home tradition, with a dash of a sincerity, she is undeniably the back bone of this country.

A true artist; whom I admire. Talent like a stream runs swift and deep within the generations of this family. Her daughter is our own Patty Baker Smith whom enlightens and inspires me. Patty is also a talented artist, mother, and savvy business woman with outstanding skill and talent. (Remember the conchs I carry) I carry a large variety of her work! I hope to emulate this family’s creativity within my own family. These women are symbolic of all that continues to spark the public’s interest in original folk art from Pennsylvania; quality, originality, beauty and the magic of imagination.
These treasures are rare, and will last for many a generation. Each piece is signed and original. I fully understand the demand for these precious pieces; if you are interested please come in this week; I can’t promise they will last.

Good Friends...

Pictures: My dear famous friend Philip Jostrom! We just added his work to our website:
http://www.philiphonegallery.com/catalog/c24_p1.html

Excitement in the Air! So many great artists are here and new events are in the works! A personal invite to all for Friday's "Afternoon of the Arts"
Classical Music, Poetry, Art and the Ambience along with great friends and family!
Kicking off the new monthly event: Steven Faubel leads this Classical & Jazz Piano Trio and the Wayne County Literature Group begins this pivotal event where the arts come together for a night of culture in Honesdale.
Come Lift your Soul with Us!
Warm Apple Cider & Coffee Served
Maybe a little wine too!

I am truly having the best time but it’s getting so busy! Dividing my time between the artists and clients has left me with no time at all for doing anything for myself. So, I am truly looking forward to meeting all the new applicants and interns.
We had a great week at the gallery; a certain famous tennis star stopped at the gallery! It took me a minute to recognize just who it was…
Nameless is Required; for I would love to have her back!
It was so assuring that she loved the gallery and what we are doing!
She even purchased a few items! So to all my artists, a great big THANK YOU!
For making me look so good!

Photography?

Sally Mann:
Photography and art?
This week I was approached by an unsavory fellow who argued with me the cost of a photograph when actually he said “it is the same as a poster...”
Yeah right… Modern point and shoot person!
Why do some photographers demand more money?
Then again…
The old question is even Photography Art?
I believe this question has been argued to death!
My opinion: I believe 100% photography is fine art.
Matter of fact! Worth every penny! Which brings us back to another classic argument of what is fine art? Let’s not go there….
What makes you happy? Is what you buy!
The average joe knows not the intricacies of the evolution of modern photography
Educated eyes are not my everyday customer…
Maybe I could slap them in the head; and start to explain what being an artist means...
But then again; why bother?
But why beat a dead dog?
the mind the reasoning, being an artist, and what art truly is, will be argued forever.
My point is we are all artists in our own way….
Here is the link to a wonderful photographer part of the ART21 series I love…
http://video.pbs.org/video/1230660017
Go to the fourth artist! Sally Mann
(The fourth in bottom…click on it)
Enjoy this amazing photographer.
Aka notice the Everclear on the table!! Sure it’s the process…
Call the state!!! You none artists….. the nude children!!!!
It totally reminds me of how I use my children in my work…
and how they(my children) perceive the madness of me…
Madness=being an artist 
Enjoy the link…
Sorry I’ve been away…
I miss you all, hope to catch up with you!

Even thou I love doing the gallery, sometimes you just need a day off!
But doing laundry and cleaning just isn’t it either!
Some time to just
Stop, breathe, and especially pray!
But when?
At our home front:
Two out of our four children are sick, I am so tired!
But wow, so much is on the forefront!

A big kudos going out to Peter… Last night’s show couldn’t have shined any brighter!
The art was young, new and refreshing!
The wine & food were exceptional, haven’t seen such perfection since my days in the city…
Break out talent is in the town!
I can’t wait for your show on Friday Night after our Sneak Peek~

Not to mention…
The bargains galore to be found! I have some real unbelievable deals at the gallery!
With the economy down, prices on art even lower than ever, personally scoring two fabulous pieces myself this week!
(Don’t tell my hubby)
I will be attempting to get back in the swing of life again, once the kids are well…
Keep Creating and Inspiring!
I miss you all!

Halloween

I love this artist:
http://dudadaze.blogspot.com/

I started the day running in full speed with the little ones..
I had a little witch, a ninja, a hippie and a big baby!!
Such a creative little bunch…
“Trick-Or-Treat”
Those words heard around the country today!
I love Halloween!

How was it in your neighborhood?
Was it a Wash out?
Our day was full of on and off rain!
The children weren’t out like they used to be!
I hope you all had better attendance then we did?
We found out rather late, our town put out an order
not trick or treating till 5-7pm!!
What about the little, little ones!
My children are done, by that time!
At the gallery…
We decorated, primed and primed ourselves
My girlfriend and I were all dressed up as Witches
And then came the rain!
I ended up eating too much candy and drinking way too much
Ghoul drink…
Sales were great but..
We ended up going home early!
Hope you had a great Halloween!

and

For all those art lovers…We have a great show planned Thursday Night!
The Connections Magazine Artscene Show!
Four great new artists
Come meet them!

Autumn Days!

These photos are from my community: Wallenpaupack Lake Estates.
I am so in love with the countryside here and…
my new home; Honesdale!
The fall foliage is dancing all around us here, the cold air is creeping close.
The old architecture, the charming churches and all the great little shops a great walk around in this fall weather!
Lucky to have moved here! The people are so kind and friendly too.

Feeling Grateful; sharing a great poem:

“Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.”

Melody Beattie quotes

So back to the home front:
My day off was spent painting so…
Today I am trying to catch up on all my cleaning & laundry.
Yuk! Have a great day!

A fun painting.

Refreshing my soul and painting:
Spent the day doing a loose rendering of my friends dog Sara; this whole style of being free and fun with the paint is new for me...
Posting these photos for your opinions:
Am I going in the right direction?
Either way I had fun doing this!
I am still working on this; I have all the details to do yet.

Strolling down the sidewalks …and tons of craft vendors!
A year ago, this weekend I found out all about Honesdale. I was so impressed with all the great stuff!
I was determined to start doing something for myself!
Thus… the beginning of “my journey to Neverland,” who would have guessed how great this turned out!
Wow!... little would I know I would have a store here!
What a wonderful detour in my life!
I love every minute here in this charming town, the people are great and the scenery is… breathtaking at this time of year!
I wish I wasn’t working this weekend, I’d love to join you, there are a ton of fabulous new shops all over town!
Either way… Weather prevailing; the events are great for the children, and the shopping is even better for mom! Just some of the great things going on in Honesdale this weekend:

Friends...

The Green Man
Joshua Cohen: Stained Glass Artist

I am still waiting for Joshua to bring me more glass….

Friendship isn't a big thing - it's a million little things. ~Author Unknown

What a day! I’ve received my official papers! Life at the gallery is going crazy great!
I have the best artists ever! Meeting all these talented artists, has been the best part of this journey.

I am so grateful for all the help and encouraging words from everyone.
My memory is jumbled and a big blur! I think all the smiling and laughing I did this week went to my head.
So if I didn’t thank someone… I would like to now; thank you, and especially a big THANK YOU to Donnie Schmidt!
Today we managed to do an inventory of the storage room, a huge help to me.
A little angel I know… sent her to look over me or is it the gallery? Either way her hard work is greatly appreciated.

Later on in the day, Charles and John stopped in. They kept me on my toes with their charming banter, and all their suggestions are appreciated too.
PS…Someone remind me to stock the refrigerator again.
Have a great night, Keep Creating!

A question to all my savvy web friends:
I am so trying to revamp the website… any suggestions of which company to use?

Ronnie Seiden Moss

Artist: Ronnie Seiden Moss “Gazebo”
at the PH Gallery

Autumn is on its way…

Believe in yourself, your neighbors, your work, your ultimate attainment of more complete happiness. It is only the farmer who faithfully plants seeds in the Spring, who reaps a harvest in Autumn.
- B. C. Forbes

I must have typed four different blog postings and lost them! I need to figure out a better system! So… I took a nice long break and read some wonderful poetry. I believe it nourishes the soul. I am giving my official apology for not keeping up with the blog as I intended. There has been so many new exciting things happening at the gallery. I have started booking events for the next two months, interviewing the interns, still so much to do…
I am enjoying the process! Keep creating!

Zentangles to the Show...

Our great night of Zentangle!
I am so pleased with how our first class turned out!!
Thank you girls for all your hard work and all the fun too!
All the hard work is starting to payoff; the gallery looks great. I am proud to say I now have another five artists! New beautiful stained glass; two new jewelers, a phenomenal group of artists! I am so privileged to have them all with me.
I have decided to start the gallery’s own blog:
http://philiphonegallery.blogspot.com/
My hopes of writing about a new artist each day. (did I say that already?)
While I am looking to hire some interns and to go forward from here, the work has truly been hard on my family. The show was wonderful all the artists did great! The gallery was stunning!
I however felt like I was run over by a truck. I stayed in bed all day today, what a week…

My friends Bob Neil and Jim Rickert will be staying on as my advisors.
I have a new great friend named Donnie Schmidt, she does feather painting and pastels! She will be keeping the gallery open on Sunday’s for us.
Her web site is www.artbydonnie.com
Thank you for all your support!! I have the best blogger friends!

My new work!

I finally found the cord to the camera! Yeah!
I am posting my new work here for you to see first…
I have worked about 20hours on this drawing… in between moving out of Neverland and into the Gallery… while getting ready for the Connection’s show.
I had grand visions of finishing a lot more work than I did. I now fully understand all your warnings about owning your own business!
My family isn’t speaking to me and that old Murphy ’s Law keeps hanging around my neck! I hope to see you at the gallery show on:
Thursday Night, September 17th between 5-8pm is the
Connections Magazine Artscene Show. There are a total of four artists, and I am one.

I am so excited my first show, sad thing is; that not knowing if the business arrangement would go through, delayed the publicity, it wasn’t done properly…
I still hope all goes well… faith

The Talented Forelli's

Photograph: Chip Forelli

This weekend rocked!
Saturday’s Fireman’s Parade and the Willow River Gallery’s Show (Which I heard was a great success!!) drove site-seers and fans to our gallery too!
Just a little about what has been going on…
A shout out and round of applause to our own Gloria Forelli who sold her photograph titled “The Pasture”!
Her artistic eye for detail and knowledge of the great masters has transcended from her paintings into this new direction with her works in photography.
Truly a talent to watch!!
We love your work and hope to see much more of it!

Her talented husband is Chip Forelli:
http://www.chipforelli.com/

His work is at the gallery!! His work is amazing and worth taking the time to stroll through his photography!

Senator Ed Kennedy’s memoir is being released today:
I have been looking forward to a good read!
In honor of him:
The work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives and the dreams shall never die.
- Edward "Ted" Kennedy 1932 - 2009

Photo like or dislike?

My daughter did this photo collage. Opinions please…
Keep or do a new one? My son said “Mom you look evil!”
??
Never enough hours in the day! Exhaustion setting in on these old bones…
Sorry ladies! I did have grand visions of myself running home after work effortlessly making dinner and tucking the kids in bed!
How does reality differ from the real thing! Two days of moving and my body is aching and more still needs to get done! About thirty trips up and down the stairs and I am exhausted! Running home to dinner; Huh that was just as fun, even with prep work at 5am, I am just getting to sit down to the computer now at 9:30! Anyway… I am supper grateful of this mean steak Johnny brought home yesterday. It has been so long since we had steak!! Hotdogs and macaroni can drive anyone insane! Than I did my cleaning up after dinner and now; more laundry too!
To all you strong woman I admire so much; How do you do it?
I stink at this! How am I supposed to make it through? Where can I find the working mom’s bible? Or a how to that works?
Well now that I got that out! I would like to say; “sorry” that I haven’t kept up with my posting. I am so jealous of all your progress…
Have a great night; I will post new photos asap.
love Caroline

Artist Conk

Artist Conk: Patty Baker Smith

Artist Conk is a mushroom grown on hardwood trees usually staying for years. Artists use these mushrooms for painting on.

Information can be found on these sites:
http://mushroom-collecting.com/mushroomartist.html
Ganoderma applanatum at MushroomExpert.com

I know I am putting a lot of her stuff on the blog! But I love her work, folk art is such a lost craft, and I am so happy to have her with us.
Great news, we have more work on its way!!! Intricate wood carvings…
I can’t wait.
The Philip Hone Gallery is going through a little reorganization the next two weeks. I hope to bring you more art and fun! Have a Great Day!

Matty Abbas Painting

Great news...
Another sold painting by Matty Abbas! You go Matty!

Unfortunate business:
I am canceling the Artist’s Lounge for the Month of August our Surprise speaker cancelled!
I am assuming this is part of business, but wow!! What a wrench in the bucket!
With just 5 days to go, back to school and another show in 2 wks… that I am working on for myself… I don’t think I can pull it all together in time.
If anyone has any suggestions for me, please send me a SOS.
Caroline

First Entry

My first entry for our Youth Encouragement Program, Our own Rachel Gorman and her entry is entitled: “Bodhi Tree”

Her Paragraph explaining the submittal:

“My piece is inspired by Buddhism and its traditions. Historically; the Bodhi tree is a sacred fig tree in India. Under this tree the founder of Buddhism, Siddhartha Gautama, first achieved enlightenment. Enlightenment is spiritual wisdom enabling clarity of perception. Wisdom can mean many different things as and can be achieved in many areas. However, enlightenment encompasses the idea of observing the world around you; perceiving life through all of your senses and understanding its meanings.”

I think this contest is going to be such a fun experience for the students and myself!
Starting the contest off with a great piece! kudos go out to Rachel.
Keep an eye out for our young Rachel Gorman; we have her work coming to the PH Gallery and it rocks!!

More news...

What a busy, busy week the store is bustling with excitement! Or does it just feel that way? I am getting a great selection of artists’ submittals this week.
I am so… determined to find the right artists for the gallery.

Going LIVE

This is my first attempt on linking the camera up; with high hopes for the future!
http://www.ustream.tv/channel/thephiliphonegallery

I will be streaming live;
I plan on interviews with local artists and in the future some “how to”
classes over the internet!
My launch date is still pending and will be determined in the next month..
with the interns; and the grants and a whole bunch of legal stuff!
I hope to share this all with my blogging friends.
Have a great weekend! Sincerely Caroline

Drawing Circle~the begining

Abundance is not something we acquire. It is something we tune into. Wayne Dyer

Sometimes in life you just need to sit back and enjoy!
And I believe this will be my niche, my little something! My night out!
As you all know I love drawing and socializing!
What better way to celebrate being an artist then being with good friends
and doing what you love!
I am sure that in time this will grow to be a treasured event.
The night was a first for me. I had a wonderful time and learned a lot!

For those who aren’t familiar with what the drawing circle is:
I host a night for my artists…
Where we come together for drawing, we have a clothed model, and enjoyable music… and we just sit back with our sketch pads and draw!
I have iced tea and fresh coffee brewing with pastries, cake, cookies and fresh fruit!
And for those of us who wish… wine is available for a donation.
There is no fee, but I do ask for everyone to donate a tip to the model….

Family

I had one great weekend.
My father came up to visit, I got nothing accomplished, but I nourished my soul! I made a big, Italian Sunday Dinner and just got done with dishes! I am uploading some pictures…. One is of my daughter in the hospital, a photo of her from the Emily’s Boutique photo shoot, and my drawing of her.
It’s not finished yet; but those who know me, I suffer from that artist thing where I hardly ever finish! Is there anyone else… this way?

A man travels the world over in search of what he needs, and returns home to find it.-- George Moore
To all my friends keep creating!
Sincerely,
Caroline
